It consists of three level 3 biosphere laboratories, which are agricultural, food and medicine laboratories, training facilities for young scientists. The PAFDA laboratory will be one of its kind in Pakistan and will sample from various parts of Punjab.
The PAFDA project consists of a prototype building, a main building (9 floors) and a power center with a total area of 314,733 square meters. The new Punjab Agriculture, Food and Drug Administration (PAFDA) Laboratory is a unique project that requires an innovative building and design. With sustainability at its core, the design responds to Lahore’s summer and monsoon seasons, including passive rain and flood protection schemes and extensive passive sun control measures. The choice of passive measures and daylight capitalization increases the energy saving potential and reinforces the project’s commitment to energy efficiency. This commitment to sustainability is based on landscape design that minimizes water consumption by taking advantage of local and regional climate patterns, and water efficient design and irrigation practices.
The aesthetic building of the new PAFDA building, a complex court and research technology, explores the rich Islamic tradition of “musharabiya” as an inspiration for facade shading devices, reflecting modernity, creating an ever-changing dance of light and shadow. With mass solutions carefully designed to stand out from their surroundings, the design aims to provide a strong image and presence that inspires confidence and innovation when approached by users (guests and employees). Massa Massa masterfully depicts two main figures – the auditorium and the minaret. Located in the laboratory, it provides a 180-degree view of the surrounding area. Administrative and training laboratories are located on the top floor of the tower, taking advantage of the view. At the level, the mass form of the “dynamic balance” of the hall is explained by the surroundings and creates a unique effect, clearly visible to approach the visitor, which is also a way to find.
Internal planning and design of the building, incorporating the latest international requirements and standards, guaranteeing the separation of flows and practical safety and security standards, both at the circulation level (with the separation of staff and visitors); at the level of logistics of goods or at the level of storage of materials.
